Much like bad weather hit the northwest the prior day, Manchester City blew the visitors aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a statement three goal win for the City coach's side owing to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that clearly signaled their title credentials as they reinforced their position at the top of the table.

Back-to-Back Defeats for Manchester United

This result signalled consecutive WSL defeats for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since spring 2024, putting them seven points off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions in serious doubt.

United’s capacity to juggle league and continental football with a small team has been a hotly discussed subject since they secured entry to the European competition. Considering the fixture list, it always seemed this was the period that would fully examine this ability. The home side, meanwhile, could have increased their lead when a superb Miedema pass sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it mattered little to the winning team. After failing to beat any side who ended above them the previous campaign, City's side now have successes against the Gunners and United to position them in a strong situation after nine games.
