Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he barely escaped a potentially fatal accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when a pair of track officials darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident happened on the third circuit when track officials were seen on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to swap his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson radioed to his team engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you witness that? I could have... killed them"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I arrived at Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes dashing across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Track Safety Questioned

"Clearly there's been a miscommunication at some point but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a live track track officials can be allowed to just dash across the track in such a way. I have no idea why, I'm confident we'll get some form of reasoning, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is actively examining the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was notified that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" declared the regulatory authority

"On lap three, safety personnel were informed and made ready to access the circuit and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the orders to send personnel were canceled and a double yellow flag was shown in that area"

"We are still investigating what transpired after that point"
