Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Looks Leaning Toward a Backstory Instead of a Follow-Up

The developers and the gaming giant delighted fans last week with the announcement of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. The hype only increased when it became apparent that the title would be connected in some way to Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

This move seems reasonable given the overwhelming success of the Three Houses timeline, which even spawned its own spin-off. With so much backstory established across two games, it’s no wonder that audiences are eager to dive back into that rich universe.

Hints Pointing To a Prequel

Several aspects in the teaser—such as the appearance of emblems, demonic beasts, and a figure known as The Divine Sovereign who looks much like a Nabatean—hint a strong link to the Three Houses lore. However it continues to be unclear whether Fortune’s Weave will be set in the history, later time, or an alternate reality.

An important detail is the mention of The Heroic Games, referred to as The Dagsion Heroic Games in Japanese. The name is very similar to Dagda, a region featured in Three Houses. Even though the previous games focused primarily on Fodlan, other territories like Brigid and Almyra were hinted at, providing ample of opportunity for exploration.

The Puzzle of the Character and Crest Stones

Another persuasive piece of evidence is the figure Dietrich, who carries a pulsating sword containing a Crest Stone. Because established in Three Houses, Crest Stones are crafted from the remains of dragon-folk. This brings up the question: could Fortune’s Weave take place after Sothis’s death, or preceding Nemesis’s betrayal?

Key Character featured in the announcement

Furthermore, the presence of Sothis in person in the preview brings another element to the speculation. Unlike her youthful depiction in Three Houses, she seems knowledgeable of her divinity and mourns on being forgotten. That may suggest that the story take place during or prior to her period of rest.

Why a Sequel Looks Improbable

At the opposite hand, a sequel encounters considerable challenges. Three Houses offered multiple endings, each with dramatically divergent conclusions. Considering the divergent storylines, it would be difficult to craft a unified sequel that resonates with all players.

Protagonist in Fortune’s Weave

Therefore, a historical adventure looks like the most likely direction. Additionally does it allow designers to explore untold aspects of the world-building, but it also circumvents the problem of conflicting with beloved outcomes from the previous game.

In the end, whether Fortune’s Weave ends up as a prequel or another type of story, fans are eagerly looking forward to further reveals as the release day nears.
